Media is an important part of our everyday lifestyle as it has developed and changed our daily routines. The ways in which people view television has changed drastically over time as we now have more variety and choice about how and what we watch. Media audiences can be defined as being as small as one person reading a magazine or as large as billions of people around the world watching events, unfold live on television.

An example of a type of media that attracts a worldwide audience is Netflix, Netflix is by far dominating the streaming video market with 139 million paid memberships in over 190 countries according to the Netflix media centre(Netflix Media Center, n.d.).

Netflix provides these global audiences with a large range of TV series, documentaries and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages. This allows us to watch as much as we want, anytime, anywhere, on any internet-connected screen. This type of streaming media has now influenced our livelihood and determines what we do in our everyday lifestyle now.

Netflix provides features where it almost feels like it is your best friend suggesting films and TV series etc that you may like to watch due to previous media you have watched. I remember entering my account and Netflix had suggested the TV series ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, since then I have been hooked on this series watching all the episodes.

The reason I enjoy this series is? well because;

Created by Dan Goorand Michael Schur, the series revolves a Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), a talented and relaxed cop with the best arrest record, he has never had to follow the rules too closely or work hard. This all changes when Raymond Holt (Andre Braugher), a man with a lot to prove, becomes the new commanding officer of Brooklyn’s 99th precinct. As Holt reminds Peralta to respect the badge, an extremely competitive colleague, Detective Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) starts to close in on the hotshot cop’s arrest record providing a funny, comedic aspect to the show.

As new series and films flood these streaming sites viewers will move onto the new and most resent thing, and most likely the rest of humanity will follow on. As media expands and develops we are socially consuming and becoming more addicted and becoming less social with the people around us.

Although the experience of these streaming sites as a whole can be enjoyable, the media at the same time reminds us how not only children can be affected, but how the broader society as a whole can be at risk as well.
