Josef Müller-Brockman:

Josef Müller-Brockmann work is best known for its simple designs and clean use of typography. The shapes and colours he incorporated in his work still inspire the graphic designers of current generation. To me he states through this quote highlights how as a designer you are the one in control of the design you are creating, however there are tools that can help provide assistants to further help you along your creation. The thing that stands out the most to me in this quote is the fact it states the “grid is an aid not a guarantee” this is symbolic of how even though grids are there for you to be accurate in the design,  you as a designer use them as guide lines to create your work around and you need to think outside of the grid. Further-more as a designer we rely on our tools and how we use them,  and in this case I think Josef Muller-Brockman was communicating our we need to trust in ourselves and not the tools we are given and that we should go back to the basics to create our designs.
